Half-marathon training
Week 5, day 3

Two miles on the track at the gym again this morning. For once I’m looking forward to “falling back” in hopes that it will allow me to run outside in the morning before work. (I’m not sure about the safety of the Katy Trail in the dark if I’m alone – anyone have thoughts on that? Maybe if I carry pepper spray?)

Two miles takes less than half an hour so usually I can just zone out but today I needed a little distraction from those 32 laps so I ran from zombies. I forget where I heard of the “Zombies, Run!” app for my iphone but it was well worth the cost (I think it’s $9.99). It’s an ongoing story about survival in a township after zombies take over the surrounding country. You play the part of a runner who is tasked with getting supplies, saving other survivors, and various other missions. The story is told in between songs from your own playlist and, if you run outside, you can choose to add zombie chases.

Yeah, it’s silly, but sometimes you need to be distracted from the task at hand! Before I knew it, the two miles were done and I had saved the township from a traitor. Not bad for 7 a.m.
